Social Development and People Empowerment Center (NESPEC)
Constitution Assembly (CA) Election Campaign
Orientation
Meeting:
A volunteer
core group from NESPEC organized a month-long orientation program in which
four political parties (Nepali Congress, CPN United, CPNM and CPNUML)
were invited to conduct an orientation about the Constitution Assembly
election and its process for the volunteers, members and staff of NESPEC.
This program helped the entire human resource sector of NESPEC by informing
them about the concept of different political institutions and about the
Constitution Assembly. This in turn helped them to discuss the different
issues in the community through the institutional viewpoint of the Constitution
Assembly.
Sample
CA Election:
A sample
CA election was organized by the NESPEC volunteer core group on February
8th, 2008, to develop the knowledge and skill of NESPEC's human resources
regarding the election process. This exercise helped all the volunteers,
members and staff of NESPEC to facilitate discussions with the village
community groups about the upcoming CA elections.
CA
Election Awareness Campaign:
Group
orientations were conducted in 25 different groups of several Village
Development Committees (VDCs) including the villages of Jogidaha, Handiya,
Sundarpur, Siddipur and the Triyuga Municipality. NESPEC also distributed
CA election information pamphlets to them, with the support of COCAP
and in cooperation with the District Election Commission. Street dramas
also took place in six different locations of those VDCs through the assistance
of various artists and NESPEC volunteers - the dramas were focused on
land rights, the marginalized community's access to the CA election, and
food security.
